so if father's age is 38 then son's age is 19 years
and son's age five year back is 19-5=14 years

"i was as old you are at the present at the time of your birth" means
sons present age=fathers age at the time of sons birth
for example sons present age is 30 then fathers age will be 30 at the time of sons birth
so here father age=38 hence sons present age will be 19
and 5yrs back so 19-5=14

try to solve with the help of answer.
suppose son present age is 14 years.
and father present age is 38 years.
so at the time of his son birth,father age will be=38-14=24 years
thatswhy son present age(14 years) is not equal to father age(24 years)
but acc to question ,our above sentence is false.
If we take present age of son as 19 years.
then we get the true condition listed in question.and after that
five years ago son age will be=19-5=14 years

Ans is option A.Let the son's present age be x years. Then (38 - x) = x
2x = 38.
x = 19.
Son's age 5 years back (19 - 5) = 14 years

At present the age of father is double the age of son. So the age of son is 19.
5 years back the age of son is 14 years.

present age of son=x
present age of father = 38-x
x=38-x
on solving that we get
x=19
therefore present age of son is 19 years
before 5 years son's age = 19 - 5 = 14 years
