Next numbers are 24 and 37

Explanation:

The series is formed as
1^2-1 = 0
2^2+1 = 5
3^2-1 = 8
4^2+1 = 17
5^2-1 = 24
6^2+1 = 37
7^2-1 = 48
and so on...

The next numbers will be 24 & 37.

The terms of the series are n^2 - 1 for odd values of n and n^2 + 1 for even values of n. where n is a natural number.

So the terms of the series are
1^2-1 = 0
2^2+1 = 5
3^2-1 = 8
4^2+1 = 17
5^2-1 = 24
6^2+1 = 37
and so on.
