angle by hr hand=11*20+(4/9)*20=229
angle mede by min hand=40*4=160
hence req angle=229-160=69

360/18=20
1)A clock with 20 degree angle btw digits( it will have 18 digits)
2) angle btw. hour and minute hand at 11:40 is 60 degree(i.e angle btw 11 and 8 digit 3*20)
3) It was assuming that hour hand is at 11 but hour hand must have moved forward during 40 minutes by 9 degree
total angle =69 degree

angle made by short hand =360/18*11 + 80/9=229
angle made by big hand =360/90*40=160
so angle between both hand =229-160=69 degree

it can be solved in simple way
in one hour hour hand traces 360/18=20deg
minute hand in one minute = 360/90=4deg
11 hours 40 minutes = (11+ 40/90)hours =103/9 hours
so angle traced by hour hand = (103/9)*20= 228.888=229 approx
angle traced by minute hand = 40*4= 160deg
hence 229-160=69deg :)
