Two concentric rings of uniform density at every point Are placed on a flat surface. Now since the centre of mass of a uniform Ring is its geometrical centre, the distance between the centers of Mass of the two rings are zero. Thus according to newtons law of Gravitation the attraction between themes (or at least tends to be) infinite, Making it impossible to pull one ring radially out from the other. However, as We know, this is not true. Why?

(#M40002765) TCS QUESTION Keep an EYE Keep an eye puzzle Keep an eye puzzle

A hare and a tortoise have a race along a circle of 100 yards diameter. The tortoise goes in one direction and the hare in the other. The hare starts after the tortoise has covered 1/3 of its distance and that too leisurely. The hare and tortoise meet when the hare has covered only 1/4 of the distance. By what factor should hare increase its speed so as the win the race?
(a) 4
(b) 3
(c) 12
(d) 5

Solution
Total circumfrance = pie*diameter
tortoise has covered = 100pie/3
remaining distance = 200pie/3
1/4th of total distance = 25pie
let the velocity of tortoise = u and that of hare =v
on time comparison we get
125pie/3u = 25pie/v
5v=3u so v=3u/5

now for remaining journey time taken by tortoise = 25pie/u
so velocity of hare to make a tie = 75pie u / 25pie
=3u
so 3u/3u/5 = 5 times answer
