Answer 12 is correct.
because if we take person a1 in the set then it will cover a36 and a2 for shaking hand.similarly if we take person a4 in the set then it will cover a5 and a3 for shaking hand and so on, so minimum 12 persons are required to make shake hand with rest of the people complete

It is dark in my bedroom and I want to get two socks of the same color from my drawer, which contains 24 red and 24 blue socks. How many socks do I have to take from the drawer to get at least two socks of the same color?

Solution
Consider the worst case. Remember you can have either pair of red or pair of blue socks. In 1st pick i get red, 2nd pick i get blue( I can also get red but you need to consider worst case).3rd pick if you get any color you have a pair. So ans is 3 picks.
