A lady has fine gloves and hats in her closet- 18 blue 32 red and 25 yellow. The lights are out and it is totally dark. inspite of darkness she can make out the difference between a hat and a glove. She takes out an item out of the closet only if she is sure that it is a glove. How many gloves must she take out to make sure that she has a pair of each colour?

Solution
It is not given that how many of these items are gloves and how many are hats, if we consider that all the items are gloves then according to my opinion 32+25+2 = 59 gloves, she must take out to make sure she has a pair of each color.

A sheet of paper has statements numbered from 1 to 70. For all values of n from 1 to 70. Statement n says ' At least n of the statements on this sheet are false. ' Which statements are true and which are false?

Solution
70th statement says that at least 70 of the statements on this sheet are false which is wrong so definitely 70th statement is false, now 69th statement says that at least 69 of the statement on this sheet are false which is wrong so 69th statement is false.similarly upto 36th statement from last. now 35th statement says that at least 35 of the statements are false, which is true because last 35 are false already, so 35th statement is true, now 34th statement says that 34 of the statements on this sheet are false, which is true on the basis of truth of 35th statement.similarly upto first
so first 35 are true and last 35 are false.

Paul the octopus who has been forecasting the outcome of FIFA world cup matches with tremendous accuracy has now been invited to predict ICC world cup matches in 2011. We will assume that the world cup contenders have been divided into 2 groups of 9 teams each. Each team in a group plays the other teams in the group. The top two teams from each group enter the semi finals (after which the winner is decided by knockout). However, Paul has a soft spot for India and when India plays any team, Paul always backs India. Alas, his predictions on matches involving India are right only 2 out of 3 times. In order to qualify for the semi finals, it is sufficient for India to win 7 of its group matches. What is the probability that India will win the ICC world cup?

if there are 30 cans out of them one is poisoned if a person tastes very little he will die within 14 hours so if there are mice to test and 24 hours, how many mices are required to find the poisoned can?

Solution
If mouse would die exactly after 14 hrs then definitely 1 will be the answer but here the given condition says that mouse will die within 14 hrs.
so this question will be solved by set theory.
answer is following
total beer bottles = 6
drinking strategy
bottle1 : mouse1
bottle2 : mouse2
bottle3 : mouse3
bottle4 : mouse1 and mouse2
bottle5 : mouse2 and mouse3
bottle6 : mouse3 and mouse1
on the basis of death of mice set we can decide the poisoned bottle

in this question upto 2 bottle answer will be 1 because 2^1 = 2
similarly upto 4 bottles answer will be 2 because 2^2 = 4
for upto 8,16,32,64,128 bottles answer will be 3,4,5,6,7
