for example a value is 100 and according to question 40% is 40 than 100-40=60 and 60 will again 20% than 60-12=48 and finally it's 52% of primary value 100. so C is correct answer...

And the answer wud be 52%
Let amount be 100
After 40% discount , it becomes 60
and 20% of 60 is 12.
So total discount is 40+12=52

-40-20+(-40)*(-40)/100=52% discount

=A+B+(AB/100)
BUT FOR DESCOUND A=-40 & B=-20

=-40-20+((-40*-20)/100)=-58
i.e. descound is 58 %
