common factor between 165 and 143 is 11. (11*15=165, 11*13=143). so each pencil costs 11rs. and there was (13-11)=2 students more in fifth std than sith std

The price of each pencil has to be a common factor of 143 and 165 -- that is 1 or 11.It can't be 1 (or even 11/2 or so) as the number of fifth standard students is 26. Therefore, the price of each pencil has got to be 11rs each.
Therefore,the number of the fifth standard students who bought a pencil each has got to be 15. Thus, the number of 6th standard students who bought a pencil each has got to be 13.
Therefore, the answer is 15 - 13 = 2
(Reckon that if 143/p and 165/p both are integers, p can be only 11 or 11/an integer. In this case it has got to be 11 as 165/p

sixth standard students paid for pencil=143 rs
fifth standard students paid for pencil=165 rs
number of sixth standard students=?
number of fifth standard students= 26
note- each students bought a pencil.
so price of one pencil=165/26= 6.346 rs =6.5rs(round figure)
diffrence of money b/w students=165-143=22
so.....
22/6.5=3.3 (approximately ans is 3 or 4)( as per given in the options)
