If total votes =x ,then valid votes= 90% of x =0.9x
Winner's vote=70% of valid votes=0.7*0.9x=0.63x
So looser's vote=30% of valid vote=0.3*0.9x=0.27x
As difference in votes of these candidates=majority, So 0.63x -0.27x=900, x=900/0.36=2500

i think 2500 wrong
Total 100%
Invalid votes 10%
So we have to take 90% only
Winner got 70%,
looser 20%,
so
70%-20%=50%

50% ------> 900
100% ------> ?

ans is : 1800

Suppose total votes = 100
and 10 % invalid then valid votes =90
winner got 70% i.e . (90*70)/100=63
and looser got 30% i.e. (90*30)/100=27
then the diffrent b/w 1st and 2nd=> 63-27=36

in question given 36=900
then 1=25
so 100=25*100 i.e.2500

now valid votes are 0.9x
given
70% of 0.9x is 900 more than 30% of 0.9x
0.9*0.7 - 900 =0.3*0.9x giving x=2500

suppose total votes x
then valid votes is: x*90%
winning candidate getting 70 % of valid then he is getting : x*90%*70%.............(1)
and the other candidate is getting 30 % of valid votes : x*90%*30%............(2)

now the difference between winner and loser is 900 votes....soooo

(x*90%*70%) - (x*90%*30%)=900

x=2500 ans.

70+10=80% votes,so the candidate who lose gets 20% votes.
70%-20%=50%=900 votes
so ans is 1800 votes

The answer is 2500

we take the total votes =x
then valid votes= 90% of x =0.9x

Winner's vote is =70% of valid votes=0.7*0.9x=0.63x
And looser's vote is=30% of valid vote=0.3*0.9x=0.27x
And here is difference in votes of these candidates is =900,

So 0.63x -0.27x=900, x=900/0.36=2500 Solved

let x be total no. of votes.
as 10% votes are in valid 90% votes are valid
winner has 70% of valid votes.. and majority of 900 votes.
so the extra % of valid votes winner got =900
=> 40%(90% of x)=900
=> (40*(80*x)/100)/100=900
=> 9x/25=900
=> x=2500
