First cut the cake parallel to horizontal. It will form 2 pieces 1 over the other.
Then give 2 cuts on the top to get 4 parts, thus making 4 upper and 4 lower =8 pieces.

This is based on simple logic.
First you have only three cuts and result is 8
now make a 1 cut horizontally to make it half (i.e. 2 piece). then again 1 cut vertically to make it 4 pieces.
and we have remaining only one cut to make 4 piece into 8 pieces. So, you have to put all 4 pieces in one up by one.

It is a 3-d we make 2cuts of cake we get 4 pieces then another that is 3rd cut to layer the means cut to separate upper and lower layer then upper layer 4 pieces, lower layer 4 pieces total 8 pieces
