15 litre of milk(water + milk) = cp of 15 litre of milk
CP of 1 litre=x
80% of 15 litre =12 litr of milk.
12 litr of milk sold at 15x
(15x-12x)*100/12x
25%.

1 litre CP =Rs 16
Now 20% water added,means 80% milk remaining ie 8/10 litre
8/10 lit sp=16rs(given)
1 lir =20rs
Profit=sp-cp=20-16=4rs
profit%=(4*100)/16=25%

20% is water
means 80% of 15 litres is milk= 80/100*1=12 litre
cost price of 15 litres= selling price of 12 litres
let c.p of 1 litre= 1 rupee
cost price of 12 litres=12 rps
selling price of 12 litres=15 rps
profit=(s.p-c.p)*100/c.p
=3/12*100=25%

The question is saying that adding 20% of water.(not given quantity). Read it carefully nitish :)

ans can be obtained by the only 1st there is no need of second statement
cost let be: X

20% of 15 = 3
means there is 12 ltr milk and 3 ltr water
so
12 ltr mlk has ------------------------- 3 ltr wtr
then
1 ltr mlk would the amount of water---- 3/12 ltr = 1/4ltr

when seller selling 1 ltr milk at price X rs
while he paying only for that only 3X/4 rs
So there would be profit of X/4 rs

Prft %= ((X/4)/3X/4)*100= 33.33%

when you wrote "8/10 lit sp= 16 rs(given)"
you became wrong as you made water:milk = 200:800 = 1:4
but it is clear from question that in 1000 ml(1 lit.) we add 20% of water i.e.
water:milk = 200:1000 = 1:5
so, Actually correct solution will be...
20% of 15 lit = 3 lit.
we get 3 lit extra.
As the cp is same as sp so, let's say cp is rs 1/lit
so total cp =15
and total sp =18
%profit (3/15)*100 = 20%

not able to understand the question is it saying that add 20% of given quantitiy...
if it is that then
let 100 litres be sold at 100 rup.
then adding 20% percent 120
120-100=20
