let the total time taken by both A and B = t
so, A & B one day work will be= 1/t

when A work alone complete the work in = (t+4)days
A one day work will be= 1/(t+4)

when B work alone complete the work in = (t+16)days
B one day work will be= 1/(t+16)

Equation will be: 1/(t+4) +1/(t+16) =1/t

t (t+16) + t (t+4) = (t+4) (t+16)
after solving this equation t = 8 days.
