The best way to solve the ages questions is using the ratio given in the problem
The first ratio is 9:7, so the difference must be a multipleof 2.
The second ratio is 25: 18, the difference must be a multiple of 7.

So, the difference must be a multiple of 2 and 7, so multiple of 14.

(9x-13)/(7x-13) = 25/18

(25-18)*13/(25*7-9*18) = 7
(The ratio of the ages 13yrs ago to the ratio of their present ages, gives the difference when their present ages were in the ratio of 9:7)
Difference = (9-7)*7 = 14 yrs(The difference obtained in the above step multiplied by the difference of ratios of their present age)
