Total area of park= 60*40= 2400sq.m
Lawn area = 2109 sq.m
That means there is a difference of 291 sq.m(this is the area of the two cross roads). Lets take 'x' as the width of the road.
ie, 60*x + 40*x - (x*x) = 291
100x - 2x =291
98x =291
x = 2.96
ie, x =3

area with out cross roads=60*40=2400 m
area excluding cross roads area(area of lawn)=2109 m

so area occupied by cross roads=291m

40+60=100 (length+width)
100*3=300

300-(3*3)=300-9=291 [at meeting point of cross roads, either length or width only considered. so, substract a square of 3X3]

Area of the park = (60 x 40) m2 = 2400 m2.

Area of the lawn = 2109 m2.

Area of the crossroads = (2400 - 2109) m2 = 291 m2.

Let the width of the road be x metres. Then,

60x + 40x - x2 = 291

x2 - 100x + 291 = 0

(x - 97)(x - 3) = 0

x = 3.
