no. of handshakes (ie) n(n-1)/2= 28

therefore no. of people present
n(n-1)=56
n2-n-56=0
n=8

No. of people present = 8

There will be total 8 People
the shortcut formula is
sigma(number of people - 1)
if there will be 8 people then total combination
7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 28

ANSWER: 15 members
let y be number of shakehands
similarly n members can give 2*(n-1)=y
therefore n=y/2+1

example:
for example if there r 4 persons w,x,y,z

w can give shakehand to w->x, w->y, w->z
and x can give sh to x->y, x->z
and y can give sh to y->z
means 4 members can give 2*(n-1) shakehands. i.e, 2*(4-1)=2*3=6

n*(n-1)/2 = 28 which on solving gives 8 , where n = number of people present.
