In 1999, no. of students = 1000
In 2000, %increase = 20%
=> 1000*120/100 =1200
In 2001, 1200*120/100 = 1440
In 2002, % decrease = 5%
=> 1440*95/100 = 1368

Ans : (2) 1368

Ans should be 1368 because
1000*20/100= 200
1000+200=1200
now
20% of 1200 will be 240
1200+240=1440
again 5% of the total will be decreased that is 1440*5/100=72
1440-72=1368

=1000+200
=1200

In 1999 no. of students=1000,In 2000 no. of students=1000+20% of 1000=1200,In 2001 no. of students=1200+20% of 1200=1440,In 2002 no. of students=1440-5% of 1440=1368.

1999 yr = 1000
2000 yr = 1000+20/100*1000=1200
2001 yr = 1200+20/100*1200=1440
