Let the total no of days for completing the work = x
so according to the given condition
(x-8)(1/36) + (x-12)(1/54) + x(1/72) = 1
on solving we will get x = 24

one day work done by a=1/36
one day work done by b=1/54
one day work done by c=1/72
one day work done by a+b+c=13/216
work done by a+b+c for 8 days=13/27
remaining work=1-13/27=14/27
work done by b+c for next 4 days=2/27+1/18=7/54
remaining work=14/27-7/54=7/18
remaining work done by alone c=7/18*72=28
total no. of days c has to work=28+4+8=40.
Answer= D.none of these
