one fifth of total volume should be taken out and filled with same amt of water to get mixture of half water and half symp.
For example
If initial mix is 40 kg with 15 kg water and 25 kg symp.
Take out 8 kg of mixture having 3 kg of water and 5 kg of symp.
left out 12 kg water and 20 kg symp.
adding 8 kg of water will make mixture of 20 kg water and 20 kg symp.

consider it initially contains 8 litres of liquid
let x litres of this liquid be replaced with water
quantity of water in new mixture is=3-3x/8+x
quantity of syrup in new mixture is= 5-5x/8
3-3x/5-5x/8-> x=8/5 so part of mixture replaced is 8/5*1/5=1/5

x = total amt of liq.
3/8* x = pure water
5/8 * x = pure symp
==================
y part will be drawn
therefore
3/8(x-y) = pure water
5/8(x-y) = pure symp
so
=====================
3/8(x-y) + y = x/2 (y amt of water is added after the drawn of y amt of mixture)
y = x/5
================
so 1/5 th
