3750 as let take total amount as X ;; he saves 450 is half the remaining amount so total amount is 2*450=900;; 40%on hotel expenses = (100-40)/100 =60/100 ;; 20% on books = (100-20)/100=80/100 ;; 50% on transport = (100-50)/50 =50/100;; then 60/100 * 80/100*50/100 X= 900;; X= 900*100*100*100 /(60*80*50) =3750

remaining amount=x-(.4x+.2x)=.4x,half of it=.2x
,total expense=.4x+.2x+.2x=.2x
saving=450=.2x=>x=2250
