21 liters as ;; the combination of two liquids X and Y = 7x,5x ;;
9L is taken out from X it becomes 7x-(7/12)*9 = 7x - (21/4)=(28X-21 )/4
and 9L taken out from Y it becomes 5x-(5/12)*9 = 5x-(15/4);; and the drum is filled by Y 9L so 5x-(15/4)+9
(20X-15+36)/4
(20X+21)/4
new ratio X/Y= 7/9
{(28X-21)/4}/{(20X+21)/4} = 7/9
252X-189=140X+147
112X= 336
X= 3;;
X=7X so 7*3= 21 liters in the drum initially obtained by X
