1 m = 15/100 sec
1000 m = 15/100*1000
=150 sec
=2min 30 sec

A HAS GIVEN B A START OF 100M OR 15 SEC IMPLIES A CAN COVER 100M IN 15 SEC.
A'S SPEED= 100/15 m/sec( DIST/TIME).
thus time to cover 1000m = dist/speed= (1000/100)*15 sec=150 seconds.

(v1*t)/(v2*t)=1000/900 ...1,(v1*t)/(v2*t+15)=d/d...2,from eq. 1&2
t+15/t=1000/900,t=135 sec

In a 1000 metre race A gives B a start of 100 m or 15 seconds.

This essentially means that B takes 15 seconds to run 100 m.

Therefore, B will take 150 seconds to run the stretch of 1000 metres. (1000 m = 10 times 100 m and therefore the time taken will also be 10 times 15 seconds = 150 seconds).

As A gives B a start of 15 seconds, A obviously takes 15 seconds less than B to complete the race.

Hence, A will take 135 seconds to run the 1000 m.

for 100m----- 15 sec
1 m ----?
= 15/100 =0.15
so for 1000m it takes 0.15*1000 =150 sec
so a takes 150+15 sec= 165 sec= 2 min 75 sec
