Let Chairs is represented by "C"
and, Tables is represented by "T"
Then, C+T=72.......(1)
Cost of each chair(given)Rs.15
Cost of each table is:Rs.21(given that it is 40%more)
Then the equation becomes:
15C+21T=501..................(2)
Now, solve the equation
T comes to 16 and C comes to 11
Thus, he buys 16 tables and 11 chairs.

answer :: 16 chair and 11 table

soln:
Let no. of Chairs be "x"
no. of Tables be "y"
total eqn1:: x+y=27

Cost of each chair Rs.15
Cost of each table Rs.21(15+ 40% of 15)
eq2:: 15x+21y=501
solving eq1 and eq 2
y = 11 (no. of tables)
x = 16 (no. of chairs)
Thus, he buys 16 tables and 11 chairs.

11 chairs 16 tables
each table costs 15+40*15/100=21
15x+21y=501
x+y=27
by solving these two x=11,y=16
