A person has Rs 100/- in his pocket, he can as 25 pencils or 15 books. He kept 15% of the money for traveling expenses and purchased 5 pencils. So how many books he can purchase with the remaining money.

Solution
cost of 15 books is 100 rupee
so cost of 3 books is 20 rupee
and cost of 25 books is 100 rupee
so cost of 1 book is 4 rupee
traveling expenses = 15 % = 15 rupee
cost of 5 pencils = 5*4 = 20 rupee
remaining amount = 100 - 35 = 65 rupee
cost of 9 books is 20*3 = 60 rupee
so total 9 books can be purchased and 5 rupee will remained

However the coin minting machinery lays out some stipulations on the size of the coins. The diameter of the coins should be at least 64mm and not exceed 512mm.
Given a coin, the diameter of the next larger coin is at least 50% greater.

A certain sum of money lent at a certain rate of compound interest grows to 1.44 times its value in 2 years. If the same sum is lent at simple interest at the same rate, in how many years would it double itself?

Solution
let the sum is x and compound interest rate is y %, then x*y*y/100*100 = 1.44x or y^2 = 14400 or y = 120 it means the sum will become 120 % in one year so interest rate = 20 %, so 5 years are required.
