(#M40002956) CAT QUESTION Keep an EYE Keep an eye puzzle Keep an eye puzzle

After the elections, a firm conducted exit polls. Exactly 2% of the male voters said they had voted for candidate A, while exactly 59% of the female voters said they had voted for candidate A. If in total, exactly 17% of the people said they had voted for the Candidate. What is the minimum number of people who were surveyed?
OPTIONS

1) 17
2) 19
3) 323
4) 1700
5) 1900

Solution
Let total no. of people = n
males = x, females = n-x
according to the given condition
2x/100 + 59(n-x)/100 = 17n/100
or 2x + 59(n-x) = 17n
or 2x + 59n -59x = 17n
or 42n = 57x
or n = 57x/42
for finding minimum number of people, take x = 14 (here 14 is the least integer for which n is integer)
n = 57*14/42 = 19
