Here C is changed to X. The position of C in English alphabet is 3. 8 multiple of 3 is 24 and 24th letter
in English alphabet is X.Similarly R is changed to N. The position of R in English alphabet is 18.
8 multiple of 18 is 144 and 144th letter in English alphabet on taking running sequence as
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ............... is N

Multiply by 8.
1. 3*8= 24
2. 18*8=144
3. 2*8= 16

Divide by 26 and obtain remainder 26.
1. 24%26 = 24
2. 144%26 = 14
3. 16%26 = 16
4. 48%26 = 22

Find corresponding letters
1. X (=24)
2. N (=14)
3. P (=16)
4. V (=22)

There is the letter for replacement.

Similarly for HAT,
position of H=8
8*8=64
64%26=12
alphabet at position 12=L

The replacement rule is (n*8)%26

i.e. multiply the number value of first letter with 8 .
Divide it by 26( total alphabets ).
Find the remainder.
Replace first letter with letter having number value equal to remainder.

Here for CAT ...3*8=24
divide by 26. remainder 24...letter X.
so code XAT.

In HAT ..H..8....8*8=64
Divide by 26. remainder is 12... letter L

so code is LAT.
