Solution

Let the investments in two businesses are respectively x & y
Then according to given conditions
x + 350000 + y × 0.84 = 1.4 (x + y) (i)
x + y = 800000 (ii)
On solving these two equations , we get x = 612500 and y = 187500

40% profit means 8l*40/100=320000.3.5l profit in first buisness means 30000 loss in second.It means 187500 investmrnt(30000*100/16).so investment in first buisness is 800000-187500=612500. ratio=612500/187500=49/15

TOTAL PROFIT IS 40%, WHICH MEANS HE GOT RS. 320000 TOTAL PROFIT... BUT PROFIT FROM ONE INVESTMENT IS RS. 350000... HENCE THE OTHER INVESTMENT GAVE HIM A LOSS OF RS. 30000 WHICH IS 16% OF INVESTMENT THERE.. HENCE 30000=16X/100 ..HENCE X=187500, AND 800000-X=612500..HENCE RATIO IS 49/15...

Total profit = 8*40/100= 3.2 lakhs

profit on first part = 3.5 lakh
If x is 2nd part, then
loss on 2nd part = x*16/100 = 3.5-3.2= 0.3 lakh
x= 0.3*100/16=30/16= 15/8 lakh.

First part = 8- 15/8 = 49/8 lakh

Ratio of investments = 49/8 : 15:8 = 49:15
