Two poles of height 12 m. and 4 m. are situated in such a way that the sun rays through the top of a pole also passes through the top of other. The distance between poles is? (It is given that the sun rays make an angle of 45 degree with the horizon)

Solution

If we make a triangle from top of the pole of height 12 m. upto ground than an other similar triangle
is also obtained from the top of smaller pole. If distance between the poles is x,
then 12/4 = 12/(12-x)
On solving we get x = 8

Let AB= 12 m and PQ = 4 m
The rays on on the horizon meets at point C . So forms a triangle ABC
Now, In triangle ABC , tan 45 = AB/BC
So, BC = 12
Similarly IN triangle PQC, QC = 4
BQ = BC- QC = 8

Let requires distance = x
Since angle =45
Then base of the smaller right angle triangle with smaller pole of 4m as perpendicular side = 4m

So, x+4 =12
x = 8
So the distance b/w poles = 8m

Ans= (10

distance between poles= shadow of long pole - shadow of small pole. As the angle with horizon for both of them is 45degrees, dist between poles = 12-4 = 8m

height of 2 pole 4 m
distance between horizon and 2nd pole is y.
tan 45 =4/y
y=4m

distance between 1st pole and 2nd pole x m
tan 45=12/x+y

x =8m

x = 12m
Again, tan45 = 4/y
y = 4m
Therefore distamce between two poles is 12 - 4 = 8m

distance of 12m pole from that point where it sun ray touching to ground= 12m
(since two angle of triangle is 45 deg.)

similarly distance of 4m pole from that point where sun ray is touching to ground = 4m also

so diatance b/w both pole = 12-4 = 8m ans.

therefore in upper triangle
tan45=8/d

Using trigonometry:
tan 45=height/base
Hence height=base=4m(for 4m pole) and base=12m(for 12m pole)
Therefore distance between both poles is 12-4=8m

distance between 1st pole and 2nd pole x m

The sun rays pass through the top of both the poles will hit the ground at some point of time.Hence the path of rays is ABD and will make an angle of 45 with the poles and ground.

using trigo base ie distance between poles is 1/sqrt(2)=base/hypotenuse...and using sin we get hypotenuse=8*sqrt(2)since 4 deduct from 12 since other tower is 4 m in height and puuting hypotenuse we get base=8

draw the fig. accordingly and divide it into a rectange and triangle we have triangle length as 4 and want another dimension which gives us answer,by using the angle,tan45=8/x
x=8

angle made 45 degree is same for both pole that why
base value we get total=12 and second 4
so distance between two poles is=8

height of taller pole if earth level increases 4m. = 8m

and angle made by Ray is 45 there for excluding 'karn' remaining sides are of same length.

but height of pole now is 8 m , therefore distance between two poles is also 8 m
