A four digit positive number having all non-zero distinct digits is such that the product of all the digits is least. If the difference of hundreds digit and tens digit is 1, then total number of possibilities for that number are:

Solution

Since product is least so number will have digits 1, 2, 3, and 4
Difference is one so possibilities for hundreds and tens digit are 2,1 and 3,2 and 4,3
So possible number are 6

product of 100 place and 10 place should be 1= 21,32,43

If the product should be least then the each number must be as small as possible. The four digit number with all distinct and least product is 1234.
According to the condition that hundreds digit and tens digit difference is 1. We can arrange this in 6 ways so that the difference will be one.
Therefore the answer is 6.

the product of all digits should be least.so 4 digits are 1,2,3,4.
thus , the possibilities are 4321,1324,2431,1432,4213,3214.
In all these numbers, the difference of hundreds and tens digit is 1.therefore,the no. of possibilities are 6.
