Saurav bought a Washing Machine with 20% discount on the labelled price. Had he bought it with 25% discount, he would have saved Rs.500. At what price did he buy the Washing Machine.

Solution

Let the labelled price be Rs.100
S.P. in 1st case = Rs.80,
S.P in 2nd case = Rs.75
5:100 :: 500 : x
So x = 100*500 / 5 = 10000

Differce in discount = 25-20=5%
Difference in amount=rs.500
So, 5%=500
1%=100
So 100%= rs 10000

10000 labelled price. he bought it on 20 % discount. so he bought it in 8000. if he bought it 25% discount he gain 500. so the ans is 10000.

so 1st s.p. is 80 and
2nd s.p. is 75

so he saved rs 5

so labelled price is
(100/5)*500

Let 100 as base price & then calculate if 5 rs. is being saved on 100 then 500 rs will be saved for 10000.

let the amount be X;
(x-(x*20%))-(x-(x*25%))=500;
by solving the eq we get x=10000

Let the labelled price be x.
According to the given information he bought the washing machine at 0.8x but if purchased at 0.75x then he would have saved Rs.500
0.75x=0.8x-500
x=10000

Let C.P. be Rs. x, then for 20% discount the M.P. = Rs. x+(20x/100) and for 25% discount New M.P. = Rs. x+(25x/100).
Given the difference is Rs. 500.
Therefore New M.P. - Old M.P. = 500
(x+(25x/100)) - (x+(20x/100)) = 500
Therefore Cost Price = x= Rs. 10000

let the price of the washing machibe be x.Now sourav bought the machine with 20% discount,his price on the machine was x/5.If he would buy the same machine for 25% discount then he would have paid x/5 on the machine.Now we substitute each value of the option in x and check for the difference of ((x/4)-(x/5)),if the result is 500 then that is the right option.Here if we substitute 10000 we get difference of 500,so it is the correct option.

x-500=75x/100
substitute value of x in eq 2

Initially at 20℅ discount
y=x-(x*20/100)
Next at the 25℅ discount there will be 500 rs save
It means that
x- (x*25/100)=y-500
By substituting the y value and by solving we get
X=10,000....

cost price of wm=100x
sp of wm=when 20%profit
sp = 120x
sp=when 25%profit
sp=125x
125x-120x=500

x=100
cp = 100*100

=10000
