A mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 4:3. If 7 litres of water is added to it, the ratio of milk and water becomes 3:4. Find the quantity of milk in mixture.

Solution

Let milk = 4x and water = 3x
Then
4x / 3x+7 = 3/4
solve x = 3

Easiest way: Initial ratio = 4:3
Look for multiples of 4 in the options: 8,12,16
Corresponding ratios: 8:6, 12:9, 16:12
Add 7 to denominators.
New ratios: 8:13, 12:16, 16:19.
12:16 = 4:3
So Option 3.

therefore new ratio:
4x/3x+7=3/4
by solving x=3
