LOOK AT THE ALPHABETS LIKE A NUMBER LINE..
A(1), B(2), C(3), D(4), E(5), F(6), G(7), H(8), I(9), ............ and so on up till Z(26).
The normal number line goes from left to right in increasing order, but this one goes from right to left in increasing order and the difference between two consecutive numbers on the number line is 12.
For this question we use just the first letters. So we have;
H(8) = -6,
G(7) = -6+12= 6,
F(6) = 6+12= 18,
E(5) = 18+12= 30,
D(4)= 30+12= 42,
C(3) = 42+12= 54

Therefore if HOPES = -6 and DOPES = 42; then, COPES = 54

According to Alphabetical order H-D=4
and difference between -6 & 42 is 48
Thus 12 per unit difference of first letter.
So for COPES we will increase the value 42 by 12
So Answer 54

the difference for each alphabet is 12 that means for d=42 : e=30 ,f=18 ,g=6,h=-6, like wise for c= 54

here in every word only first letter is different so
as we move from D to H the difference becomes =
42-(-6)=48
after D there are 4 letter to reach at H these are E,F,G,H so after each letter ((48/4)=12) i.e. 12 is deducted from previous one as we move to the next letter or as we move to the previous letter from the next letter then 12 is added to next letter so it copes will be 42+12=54

Now,
IF H=-6
D=42 means we backward each word then it add 12 so,
C=54

For C(3)OPES = -(-6) + (48*5/4) = -6 + 60 = 54

differance is 4 but value increases by -6 to 42 i.e 42+6=48
so for 1 letter decrement value is increased by 12
h ->8
d ->4
for h to d 4 differance 4 ->48

Value of HOPES=[(6-8)+1]*6=-6; Face value of H=8
Value of GOPES=[(6-7)+2]*6=6
