Rishu can buy an article with market price 20000 Rs. How much can he save by choosing a better offer between three successive discounts of 20%, 20% and 10% and three successive discounts of 40%, 5% and 5%?

(90% of 80% of 80% of Rs.20000) = Rs.11520
(95% of 95% of 60% of Rs.20000) = Rs.10830
Therefor saving = 11520-10830 = Rs.690

20,000*0.8*0.8*0.9=11,520
20,000*0.6*0.95*0.95=10,830

first calculate discount for only two discounts, and then whatever the result comes, again calculating it fotr the result we got and the remaining discount.
using formula
Total discount = (x + y - xy / 100) %



for first choice,
20+20-(20*20)/100 = 40 - 4 = 36
then 36 + 10 -(36*10)/100 = 46 -3.6 = 42.4%
discount on market price = 42.6 /100 * 20000 = 8480

for second choice,
40+5-(40*5)/100 = 45 - 2 = 43
then 43 + 5 -(43*5)/100 = 48 -2.15 = 45.85%
discount on market price = 45.85/100 * 20000 =9170
difference on discount = 9170 - 8480 = Rs 690
so option is 1

Simply,
if he chooses first one then
20000--(-20?)----->16000----(-20?)---->12800--(-10?)----->11520
if he chooses 2nd one then
20000--(-40?)---->12000--(-5?)--->11400--(-5?)--->10830
obviously 2nd one will provide more benefit then he can save=11520-10830
=Rs.690 Ans
Hence option (1) is the right answer.

after 20,20,10% the price becomes 11520
after 40,5,5% the price becomes 10830
saving by choosing a better option is the difference of the prices = 11520-10830=690

first offer 20%,20%,10% discount= 11520
second offer 40%,5%,5% discount = 10830
the difference is 690.
answer is option 1.

Actually the answer is 690.
Capital = 20000
For the first one Amount at the successive discounts are = 20000*80*80*90/100^3=11520
For the second =20000*60*95*95/100^3 =10830
Discounts are 8480.9170
Saves=9170-8480=690
Hence I choosed "1 ".

first discount= 20000-11520=8480
second consecutive discounts:
40/100(20000)=8000
