A merchant has 1000 kg of sugar, part of which he sells at 6% profit and the rest at 16% profit. He gains 108% on the whole. The quantity sold at 16% profit is:

Solution

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (Price of Dearer - Mean Price)/(Mean Price - Price of Cheaper)

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (116 - 108)/(108-106) = 8/2 = 4/1

Total Quantity = 1000 KG

The quantity sold at 16% profit is = (1/(4+1)) * 1000 = 200

let 1 Kg=1Rs
so we take 2 parts x& y...
Eq. 1st becomes
x + y =1000rs......................(1)

We sell at profit of 6% & 16% & gain overall 108% of whole.
so 2nd Eq. becomes
106x + 116y =108000Rs.......(2)

solve both by elimination method & get values
x=800Kg & y=200Kg

Let the c.p. of sugar b Rs.1.00;
profit on whole transaction @8% will B Rs. 80.

Let the part of sugar sold @ a profit of 16% B X kgs.
Then part sold @ profit of 6% will B (1000-X) Kgs.

6/100*(100-x)+16/100*x=80, solving for x, v get,
10x=20*100;
x=200 kgs.

for 1000kgs of sugar he gains 108% of hole .in this case by taking average 108/1000×100 .we getting 10.8%per100 grams .so,it got approximatly 200kgs
