A merchant has 175 kg of sugar, part of which he sells at 5% profit and the rest at 15% profit. He gains 108% on the whole. The quantity sold at 5% profit is:

Solution

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (Price of Dearer - Mean Price)/(Mean Price - Price of Cheaper)

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (115 - 108)/(108-105) = 7/3

Total Quantity = 175 KG

The quantity sold at 5% profit is = (7/10) * 175 = 122.5 Kg

Quantity of Cheaper/Quantity of Dearer= (Price of Dearer-Mean price)/(Mean Price -Price of Cheaper)
=(115-108)/(108-105)=7/3
Total Quantity= 175kg
Quantity of 15%=7/(7+3)*175
= 122.5kg

Let the c.p. of sugar be Rs.175.
Then on the whole, profit earned is 8/100*175=14;
Let the part of sugar sold @ profit 5% be X kgs.
then 5/100*X+ 15/100*(175-X)=14;
X/20+525-3X/20=14;
2X=525-280;
X=245/2=122.5 kg i.e. option no 6 is the answer

105/100*x+115/100*(175-x)=108/100*175
105x+115*175-115x=108*175
i.e.
10x=7*175
x=122.5kg

According to equation
105x/100+(175-x)115/100=175*108/100
Solving x=122.5

8% (mean)
15-8=7 8-5=3
so,ratio is 1st :2nd =7:3
quantity of 2nd kind =175×7/10

Y for 15% then
x+y=175
5x+15y=(x+y)*8
x/y=7:3
x=7/10*175
=122.5kg
