In a 100 m race, A can give B start of 30 m and C start of 37 m. In the same 100 m race B can give C start of how many meters:

Solution

Answer : 10 m
When A runs 100 m, B runs 70 m and
When A runs 100 m, C runs 63 m

This means that when B runs 70 m, C runs 63 m
So when B runs 100 m, C will run = (63/70)*100 = 90 m

So B can give C a start of 100 - 90 = 10 m

when B completes 70 (100-30) meters, C completes 63 (100-37) meters.
When B completes 100 meters , 100*63/70= 90 meters.

For a given time their distance ratios are 100:90

As Speed is directly proportional to distance so,
a/b/c=100/70/63
now,b/c=70/63=10/9
or 100/90
so B gives C head start of 10 m

Time taken by B to complete 70 mts = Time taken by C to complete 63 mts= x min;
speed of B=70/x;
speed of C=63/x;
so for B completing 100 mts takes time=100/70*x
in this time c completes distance (y), say;
thus y/63*x=100/70*x
y=100*63/70= 90 mts.
so B can give C a start of 10 m. Option 2 Answer.

B:C = b/a*a/c=70/100*100/63
=10:9
therefore when B runs 10 m, C runs 9m
so when B runs 100 m ,
C runs =100*9/10 =90m
