Two trains are running in opposite directions on parallel tracks. Train running with speed 64 Km/hr has 270 meter length and the second training running with speed of 36km/hr has 330 meter length.
What is the time taken by the faster train to pass the driver of the slower one?

Solution

Relative speed= 64+36 = 100 km/hr = 100 * 5/18 = 250/9 m/sec

We are calculating the time taken by the faster train to completely pass the driver of slower train.
Hence, distance = lenght of faster train = 270 metre

Time = 270/250/9 = 9.72 seconds

time= length of faster train in km/ (total speed of trains in km/sec)= (270/1000)/((64+36)/3600)=9.72 seconds

Relative speed of the two trains will be = 500/18 Km/hr
Now time taken by the faster train to cross the slower train will be = 270/(500/18) = 9.72 seconds

The relative velocity of the 2 trains coming from the opposite direction is (64+36) = 100km/hr.
The faster train in order to pass through the driver of the slower train traverses the length of its own length that is 270 m.
So, the time taken= 270/1000/100*3600 secs.
= 9.72 secs.
