A merchant has 62 kg of sugar, part of which he sells at 8% loss and the rest at 8% profit. He gains 4% on the whole. What is the difference between the quantities of sugar sold at 8% profit and that sold at 8% loss?
OPtion
1) 30 kg
2) 15.5 kg
3) 46.5 kg
4) 32 kg
5) 31 kg
6) 40 kg
7) 35 kg
8) 36 kg
9) 14 kg
10)None of these
Solution
(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (Price of Dearer - Mean Price)/(Mean Price - Price of Cheaper)
(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (108 - 104)/(104-92) = 4/12 = 1/3
Total Quantity = 62 KG
The quantity sold at 8% loss is = (1/4) * 62 = 15.5 Kgs
The quantity sold at 8% profit is = (3/4) * 62 = 46.5 Kgs
Difference between Quantity = 46.5 - 15.5 = 31 Kgs
