A merchant has 420 kg of sugar, part of which he sells at 11% loss and the rest at 9% profit. He gains 7% on the whole. What is the difference between the quantities of sugar sold at 9% profit and that sold at 11% loss?
OPtion
1) 334 kg
2) 335 kg
3) 338 kg
4) 336 kg
5) 378 kg
6) 42 kg
7) 48 kg
8) 52 kg
9) 40 kg
10)None of these
Solution
(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (Price of Dearer - Mean Price)/(Mean Price - Price of Cheaper)
(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (109 - 107)/(107-89) = 2/18 = 1/9
Total Quantity = 420 KG
The quantity sold at 9% profit is = (9/10) * 420 = 378 Kgs
The quantity sold at 11% loss is = (1/10) * 420 = 42 Kgs
Diff between quantities = 378-42 = 336 KGs
