A merchant has 999 kg of sugar, part of which he sells at 12% loss and the rest at 15% profit. He gains 7% on the whole. What is the difference between the quantities of sugar sold at 15% profit and that sold at 12% loss?

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (Price of Dearer - Mean Price)/(Mean Price - Price of Cheaper)

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (115 - 107)/(107-88) = 8/19

Total Quantity = 999 KG

The quantity sold at 12% loss is = (8/27) * 999 = 296 Kgs
The quantity sold at 15% profit is = (19/27) * 999 = 703 Kgs
Diff between quantities = 703-296 = 407 KGs

If we follow the allegation rule then we can write it

let, qty sold at 12% loss is x
so, qty sold at 15% profit is (999-x)
let, the cp is z/kg
so, (xz*88/100+(999-x)*115/100)-999z)/999z=7/100
so, x= 296.
so, rest amount is (999-296)= 703
so, difference in these two amounts is (703-296)= 407.

then 999/27=37 then sugar sold at 12% loss is 37×8=296 and at 15% gain is 703 so the difference will be 703-296=407

let x sold at 12 % loss, 999-x sold at 15% gain. total gain on 999 kg is 7%.
12% loss of X + 15 % gain of 999-X = 7% gain on 999
88x/100+115(999-x)/💯=107*999/100
88x+115*999-115x=107*999
x=999*8/27
=248
X=296
and remaining part =703
difference of both is 407

Let one of the part of sugar is X. The another part will be (999-X).

If there is 12% loss for selling X kg. The loss is 12X/100
Similarly, the profit for another part is 15 (999-X)/100

[{15 (999-X)/100} - (12X/100)] = 7
X= 296
Therefore, at loss = 296 kg.
At profit (999-296)= 703kg.
The difference will be =(703-296)= 407kg.

let X be the amount of sugar which has been loss for 12%

so
X-(12/100)*X + (999-X) + (15/100)*(999-X) = 999+ (999/100)*X


solving this we get X=296
and subtract it from 999 to get other part
999-296=703
and so we get the difference
703-296=407

Let y be qty sold at 12%loss
So,x+y=999
x=999-y
15%x-12%y=7%999
15%(999-y)-12%y=7%999
