y is no. of shares invested in 108 shares

104x+108y = 54000
8x+12y = 5600

x= 112.5
amount invested = 112.5*104 = 11700

Let Snehal invest Rs. X in 8% stock at Rs. 104
Then he invests (54000-X) in 12% stock at Rs. 108
Then we can write
8*X/104 + (54000-X)*12/108 = 5600
Solving this equation we can get X = Rs. 11700
