Manoranjan could either walk or drive to office. The time taken to walk to the office is 9 times the driving time. One day, his wife took the car making him walk to office. After walking 3 km, he reached a temple when his wife called to say that he can now take the car. Ramanujam figured that continuing to walk to the office will take as long as walking back home and then driving to the office. Calculate the distance between the temple and the office in KMs.

Solution

Suppose the distance between his home and office is x km. Then, distance between his office and temple is (x – 3) km.
If he walks at a speed of y km/hr. Then his driving speed = 9y km/hour, as he is 9 times faster in car.

Then,
3/y + x/9y = (x – 3)/y
Or, 3 + x/9 = x – 3
or 8x/9 = 6
Or, x = 27/4
Finally, x – 3 = 27/4 - 3 = 15/4

Let the driving time be x
Then walking time is 9x
Let the driving speed and walking speed be d and w respectively
Then, x*d = 9x*w
=> d/w = 9
Let the distance between temple and office be y
Then, y/w = (3/w) + {(3+y)/d}
=> 9y-27 = 3+y
=> 8y = 30
=> y = 30/8 = 15/4
Distance between Temple and Office is 15/4 kms

Let the distance is D km . Time taken by Car to reach to the office is t hr so by walk Ramanujam can reach it in 9t hr.
Now from the question the equation becomes
(D-3)/9t = (D+3)/t
by solving this we can get D = 15/4 Km

Distance is =x
Speeds=s,s/9
Given (x-3)/s/9=3/(s/9)+x/s
9(x-3)=27+x
9x-x=54
X=54/8=27/4
Distance between temple and office =(27/4 )-3=15/4km
Hence my option is 8👈.

the ratios of speed is d:w=9:1
time taken to return home by walk and going to office by driving=3+(x+3/9)
time taken to go office from temple to office by walk=x
eqauting both
3+(x+3/9)=x
we get x=15/4km
