In a certain corporation, there are 12500 male employees and 750 female employees.  It is known that 15% of the male employees have advanced degrees and 50% of the females have advanced degrees.  If one of the employees is chosen at random, what is the probability this employee doesn't has an advanced degree?

Solution

Total number of employees = 12500+750 = 13250

Number of male employees without Adv. degree = 12500*85/100 = 10625
Number of female employess without Adv. degree = 750*50/100 = 375
Total number of employees without adv. degree = 11000

Probability = 11000/13250 = 44/53

Total=13250
Male adv degree holders=15%=1875
Female adv degree holders =50%=375
Total =1875+375=2250
Persons not having=13259-2250=11000
Provability=11000/13250=44/53

No.of employees is 12500+750= 13250.
No.s having advanced degree is (12500*15/100+750*50/100)= 2250.
So, rest is (13250-2250)= 11000.
So, probability is (11000/13250) = 44/53.

And chosing 1 non advanced employee can be done in 375C1 +10625C1 way
Therefore probability is 44/53
