In 2020, A would be 8 years older than B who would be eleven times as old as C. Also, the total of the ages of A, B and C in 2019 would be 143 years. What is the average of A and B ages in 2024 ?

Solution

Total ages of A+B+C in 2019 = 143
Total ages of A+B+C in 2020 = 143 + 3 = 146 years

In 2020
Let’s assume Age of B be B years
Age of A = B+8
Age of C = B/11

Total age = B + 8 + B + B/11 = 146
Solving 23B/11 = 136
B = 66
A = B+8 = 74
C = 66/11 = 6

In 2024 - i.e. 4 years later
Age of A = 74+4 = 78
Age of B = 66+4 = 70

Average of ages = 74 years
