When A covers 500m B Covers 420m
When A Covers 500m C covers 480m

A : B = 500 : 420
A : C = 500 : 480

C/B = (C/A*A/B) = (480/470) = 480:420
When C covers 480 m, B covers 420 m.
When C covers 700 m, B covers (420/480)*1200)m = 612.5
Therefore, C beats B by (700 - 612.5) m = 87.5 m.

If B:C=x:700
7:8=x:700

speed of b=420/t
speed of c=480/t
if c wiill took t1 time to complete 700m then
t1*(480/t)=700
therefore distance covered by b in t1 time
t1(420/t)=(700/480)*420
hence ans = 700-(700*420)/480=87.5

let A take time t to complete 500 m.In same time t,
B will cover 420 m and c 480 m as per given infm.For 700m, A will take 7t/5 ,B 35t/21 and C 35t/24.
At time 35t/24, C would have covered
700*(35/24)*(21/35) = 612.5 m.Hence C will bet B by 87.5m
