The present age of a brother is 3 years more than four times the age of his sister. Three years hence, brother’s age will be 6 years more than twice the age of the sister. Find the present age of the brother.

Solution

Let the sister’s present age be ‘n’ years.
=> brother’s present age = (4n + 3) years
So, according to the question
(4n + 3 + 3) = 2 (n + 3) + 6
=> 4n + 6 = 2n + 12
=> n = 3
Hence, brother’s present age = (4n + 3) = 15 years
