The present age of a brother is 2 years more than five times the age of his sister. Four years hence, brother’s age will be 4 years more than thrice the age of the sister. Find the present age of the brother.

Solution

Let the sister’s present age be ‘n’ years.
=> brother’s present age = (5n + 2) years
So, according to the question
(5n + 2 + 4) = 3 (n + 4) + 4
=> 5n + 6 = 3n + 16
=> n = 5
Hence, brother’s present age = (5n + 2) = 27 years
