Lakhan ate 72 bananas in six days, each day eating 4 more than the previous day. How many bananas did he eat on the second day?

Solution

let the number of bananas eaten in first day be x
for consecutive six days: x,x+4, x+8, x+12, x+16, x+20

Sum = 72
So 6x + 4 + 8 + 12 + 16 + 20 = 6x + 60
So 6x + 62 = 72
6x = 12
x =2

So number of bananas eaten on second day x+4 = 2+4 =6
