At the time of marriage, a man was 5 years elder to his wife. 16 years after their marriage, his age is 8/7 times the age of his wife. What was wife's age at the time of marriage ?

Solution

let wifes age= x
husband age = x+5
now after 16 years of marriage
Wife's age = x+16
Husband's age = x+16+5 = x+21


8/7(x+16)=x+21
=> 8x+16*8 = 7x+21*7
Solving we get = 19
