The ratio of ages of two persons is 4 : 7 and one is 27 years older than the other. Find the sum of their ages.

Solution

Suppose ages are x and y
Let the age of first be 4x so age second person becomes 7x
As per question 7x-4x =27
Solving we get x = 9

So age of first person is 4x = 36 and second person is 7x= 63
Sum = 99
