If numbers are x and x+6 , then

x^2+(x+6)^2= 260

or

x^2+x^2+12*x+36= 260 ..
or
2x^2+12x-224=0, then x= 8.. option 5

Let x be the greater Number and y be the smaller number.
By given x=y+6 and x^2+y^2=260
sub x in above equation, we get (y+6)^2+y^2=260
2y^2+12y+36=260
y^2+6y+112
on solving the above equation we get y=8 or -14
y cannot get -14 hence y (i.e) smaller number =8

If smaller no. is 8 and other number is 8+6=14, then
8^2+14^2= 64+196= 260.

so smaller no is 8.
